We knew it would be too cold to hit the islands after the conference, but weren't sure what to do as the conference organizers had told us that the interior of Greece was rather dull. We decided to rent a car and risk it anyways. Matt and Veronica suggested checking out Meteora - a place we had never heard of, but made famous by a James Bond movie and were truly astonished by the place. There are more than a dozen Greek Orthodox monasteries built on stone towers, most of them still active monastic communities. The stone towers were appealing because Greece has suffered so many invasions and wars throughout history. We stayed in the town shown in the third picture for two nights.
