Damascus, Syria - March 2007

Breakfast the morning after the castle. We stayed in a convent that provided a little too basic of a breakfast for our taste. Luckily we found this lovely restaurant in the courtyard of an old Damascine home. There were vines and 2 orange trees, plus the fountain in the center. We feasted on omelettes, lamb sausage, hummus, and fresh veggies - preparing ourselves for a long day of shopping. Damascus is famous for its shopping, having much lower prices and more traditional goods than any other city in the region. Of course it is also one of the many Middle Eastern cities which competes for the title of oldest continuously occupied city and in fact it is apparently the world's oldest continuously occupied capitol city. We found the shopping good, the people welcoming, and the food outstanding. And, as usual, we wished you all could join us.
