We took a day trip to Mar Elias, the tomb of the prophet Elias who died in the area which is now Ajlun in northern Jordan. Apparently he ascended to heaven on a flaming chariot and this church in the Ajlun region (built in the 7th century) became a pilgramage site during the 9th century (Byzantine Era). Jason is standing in front of the original knave. The trees in the picture are evergreen oaks native to the Middle East. The mosaics are in the newer church above this knave.
